Blended Learning is a term used to describe the process of combining online web tools and media with traditional classroom methods in order to improve engagement, collaboration and accessibility for students. At Kings Meadows High School, we believe that Blended Learning is a powerful way to transform education; through the use of these tools and learning management systems, we can empower students to have a say in the time, place and pace of their learning.
Canvas is our Department of Education online Learning Management System. It is a virtual classroom – a space where teachers can collaboratively plan units of work, students can engage with their learning, access resources, and seek and receive feedback, and progress can be tracked and celebrated. Our students are all provided with iPads, giving them 1:1 access to devices and maximising learning opportunities in the Canvas space.
The Department of Education provides a range of online learning programs to meet the needs of gifted and talented students in schools state-wide. The programs are collectively known as the Gifted Online programs and they provide online extension and enrichment across a wide range of learning areas. These programs are facilitated by teachers who are very experienced in extending and enriching learning for gifted and talented students. Students are able to connect and work with other gifted and talented students from around Tasmania through the Gifted Online programs. Selected Kings Meadows High School students participate in their chosen online course for one hour per week.
Flexible programs at Kings Meadows High School are designed to help students engage actively in school life and to achieve success through a wide range of activities and social learning opportunities. Support is provided on an individual and small group basis and utilises students’ strengths and interests to assist them to achieve positive outcomes.
